Heat oven to 350 deg F.
Grease an 8″ square baking pan. Line with parchment paper. Set aside.
Sift together:
1 cup all-purpose flour
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
Set aside the sifted dry ingredients.
In another mixing bowl, cream:
1/2 cup butter
1/4 cup + 2 tablespoons chocolate powder
Gradually add in:
3/4 cup brown sugar
Continue creaming for about 1 to 2 minutes. One at a time, put in:
2 large eggs
Beat well after each addition. Add:
1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
Slowly pour in the dry ingredients. Do not over mix. Stir in 1/2 part of:
1 cup coarsely-chopped toasted walnuts
Pour into the prepared pan. Top with the remaining nuts. Bake in the oven for 20 minutes, or until brownies just begin to pull away from the sides of the pan. Do not over bake.
A toothpick inserted into the center of the brownies should not come out dry. Allow to cool on wire rack before slicing into 12 bars.
